Real Life Stories: “I was 51 when I had a brain haemorrhage due to high blood pressure"

“I was 51 when I experienced a significant brain haemorrhage caused by high blood pressure.

I was rushed to hospital where a scan showed the extent of the haemorrhage. I was then transferred to the nearest hospital with a neuro surgery team who performed a craniotomy, I have 2 large holes in my skull still from where they evacuated the hematoma, I was then transferred back to the first hospital where I spent 14 weeks on a stroke rehab ward.

My recovery has been very hard and is still on going although the medical side seems to be slowing down, I still have lots of physio therapy and neuro rehab. One thing I have found really helpful and comforting in my recovery is connecting with other survivors and hearing other people’s stories about their rehab and recovery journey.”
