Fieldfisher is one of the leading medical negligence practices in the UK.

They are known for their exceptional client care and for achieving optimum settlements for clients to help whole families live their best possible lives following illness and injury.

How can Fieldfisher help you?

Do you feel the medical treatment you or a relative, received was substandard and negligent, resulting in serious consequences?

Then Fieldfisher may be able to help.

After initially discussing your concerns with Fieldfisher, they will commission a team of medical experts to review your case and to advise on failings in care that caused your injury or, tragically, the death of a loved one.

They then quantify the financial impact of your injury, including, for example, the cost of private rehabilitation and medical care, loss of earnings and funds for vital equipment and adapted accommodation where necessary. In the event of a preventable death, they seek compensation including the loss of financial and other support that those dependent upon the deceased have suffered. They generally access interim payments to support you once liability has been established and while your claim progresses.

Fieldfisher works on a no win, no fee basis and will tell you honestly if they think you have a claim before you start to work together.

Jenny Urwin
Fieldfisher’s Manchester team of medical negligence lawyers

Jenny is expert at running cases involving catastrophic brain injury relating to sub-arachnoid haemorrhages and strokes arising from negligent medical care.

Examples include failure by doctors to recognise severe headache as an initial warning of a bleed to the brain that warrants swift surgical intervention, where the patient has then gone on to suffer a second catastrophic bleed. Other such cases include negligent management of hypertension leading to stroke, with resulting neurological dysfunction.

Jenny is accredited and recognised as a medical negligence specialist with panel membership of The Law Society and AvMA. She a senior litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and a member of the Manchester Law Society. She is recognised as a leader in her field by legal directories Chambers (Star Individual) and Legal 500 (Tier 1). She is described by a client as; ”The very best lawyer anyone could ever have”.

Case Study: Delay in diagnosing brain haemorrhage leads to £3.4m settlement

Jenny’s successful cases include £3.4m for a former dental nurse whose brain scan was misreported, leading to a delayed diagnosis of her sub-arachnoid haemorrhage by the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. The woman attended the hospital five times with continuing severe headache before investigations led to a diagnosis of subarachnoid haemorrhage following rupture of a right sided brain aneurysm. She was eventually admitted for surgery but as she was about to be anaesthetised, suffered an additional bleed causing a large acute subdural haematoma and clot to her brain. This caused permanent brain damage leading to cognitive impairment, including memory problems and physical and behavioural changes. She was no longer able to work and several years after the injury, was only able to return to part-time, unskilled employment. She also struggled to care for her family, run her household and generally enjoy her previous life. As a result, she needed ongoing and lifetime support.
